The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has announced that all social media influencers in Abu Dhabi must obtain a license to provide advertising services. This new regulation aims to ensure a well-regulated influencer marketing environment that protects consumer rights and promotes an ideal economic climate in the Emirate. In our opinion, this is a step in the correct direction, as we always believe that influencer marketing laws and regulations are needed in the MENA region to help further grow the creator economy and increase influencer marketing spending.

So, How Do You Obtain The Social Media License for Influencers in Abu Dhabi from ADDED?

Quite Easy:

  1. Download the TAMM App on your Smartphone

  2. Register and Validate Your Account or Login

  3. Select ADDED and Apply for a License by selecting the relevant activities you wish to engage in. The main activity is advertising services on electronic platforms or websites.

How Much Does It Cost?

Individual influencers must pay a fee of AED 1,250, while businesses will be charged AED 5,000 to obtain the required licenses.

What Happens If I Don’t Get This License?

Non-compliance with these regulations can result in significant penalties, including fines ranging from AED 3,000 to AED 10,000, and may even lead to the potential closure of business closure for non-compliance with ADDED Circulars.

It is important to note that having a permit from the UAE Media Council does not exempt influencers from obtaining the required licenses from ADDED. This ensures comprehensive compliance and avoids penalties for violators.

It has been clarified that foreigners outside the UAE can obtain a license for this activity if they have an Emirates ID card or a UAE Unified Number. Additionally, branches of companies located outside Abu Dhabi must secure the necessary permits from ADDED to conduct advertising activities within the Emirate.
